【メインセールとキール】
昨晩は風が上がってきたので、メインセールとジブセールを小さくし、安全に航海しました。
皆さんは、マストに沿って大きく高々と転回されているメインセールを一番に思い出されるのではないでしょうか。ヨットには、船艇につけられている重りであるキールがあります。メインセールで風をしっかりと受け、これを重力として先へ進みます。船艇の重りであるキールがなければ横倒しになってしまいます。だるまさんのように、倒れようとしてもこのキールが起こしてくれるのです。 皆さんは、メインセールしか見ないと思いますが、キールは見えないところでしっかり働いているのです。ヨットにとって両方とも必要なのです。
人も同じではないでしょうか。どんな人でもどんな職業でも、それぞれに必要とされているのです。 今置かれている場所でしっかり自分の任務をやっていきたいですね。

[ Main sail and the keel ]
Our boat was safe last night even in the high wind, because we reefed the main and the jib sail.
When you think about a sailing boat, you may have an image of a boat with a big mainsail raised up high. A sailing boat have a structure element called “Keel” on the bottom of a boat that works like a weight. A sailing boat moves forward by catching winds on its mainsail that provides a gravitational pull. Without a keel, a sailboat can tip over. A keel provides stability to the boat. So, you may only see a mainsail of a boat, but a keel which you can not see from above the water does a great job in sailing. Those two are the two important parts of a sailing boat.
That may be true in human society. Anybody on whatever the occupation has its duty. Let’s do what you can in the position you are in right now.
