El Niño and the affects of a succession of low pressure systems forming off Hawaii have conspired since our departure to prevent us from heading west and have disrupted normal wind patterns.  Having said that we are at 23 57N   120 50 W on a heading of 250 degrees close-hauled ( who would have expected that?!) moving around 4.5 knots.   At this rate we will make Hawaii in around 17 days, much slower than expected.   Fortunately, the winds from Hawaii west look much better.

エルニーニョとその影響からハワイ沖で次々と発生する低気圧の状況は我々の出航と同じ頃から始まり、西への航路を阻み、通常の風向きのパターンを崩しています。そんな状況ですが、今、北緯23度57分　西経120度50分の所をコース250度、クローズホールド、のぼり（誰がそんな状況を想像したでしょう？）を船速4.5ノットで航行しています。このペースで行くとハワイ付近にはおよそ１７日で到達する事になり予想よりかなり遅いです。幸いな事にハワイの西側の状況はずっとましな様です。
