【堀江謙一さんはすごい！】

昨日、日本時間午後３時４５分頃に、日付変更線を無事に超えることができました。皆様の応援に感謝しつつ、この人生に二度とあるかわからない瞬間を、感動しつつ迎えることができました。

堀江謙一さんは、1962年、歴史に残る、ヨット単独無寄港太平洋横断に成功されました。ヨットは、Dream Weaver の半分ほどの6 Mメートルに満たない、考えられない小さな船でした。

装備も 、GPS やオートパイロットもない状況で、食べ物に関しても、今私たちが食べているフリーズドライやお湯を入れるとご飯ができるようなものもなかったのです。多くの人に反対されて、政府からはパスポートも発行されないなか、挑戦したのです。

堀江さんの自分を信じ、夢に向かって挑戦された、そのスピリットには尊敬しております。

無事にこのチャレンジが成功した後、堀江さんの「太平洋ひとりぼっち」をもう一度読み返してみたいものです。一度是非お会いしてみたいと願っております。どなたかお友達の方がいらっしゃいましたら、つないでいただけましたらありがたいです。

[ Respect for Kenichi Horie ]

We crossed the International Dateline yesterday around 3:45 p.m.. It was an emotional moment for me to realize this precious experience could never happen again. I am so grateful!

Kenichi Horie is the famous yachtsman in history to make a non-stop solo crossing of the Pacific Ocean in 1962. His sailing boat was very small that was 19 feet, and less than half of Dream Weaver.

He did not have any high-tech equipments we have, like GPS or Autopilot. There weren’t any freeze-dried foods, or instant rice that we only need hot water. Many people criticized and tried to stop him. Worse thing was the government didn’t even issue him a passport. But, nothing stoped him.

I respect Horie-san’s spirit of believing in himself and taking action for his dream.

If we successfully finish our adventure, I would liked to read his book “Kodoku: Sailing Alone Across the Pacific” again. I would love to meet him too. I wonder if anybody reading this have a connection to Horie-san…
