Hiro’s Journal / ヒロ日記より03.01.2019 Day 6

波60センチ 天気晴れ

March 1st, 2 p.m. Pacific Time, March 2nd 7 a.m. Japan Time, Day 6

NE wind, Wave hight: 60cm, Weather: Clear

We are sailing down south by NE wind. We are still struggling from lack of decent wind. Hopefully, we will get to the area with better wind conditions by tonight. I noticed that the floor was slippery as I was working in the cockpit, trying to put the sails up. We had spilt a small amount of fuel when we filled up the tank yesterday. We had cleaned the floor with paper towels, but forgot to check the bottom of our shoes, which spread the fuel all over the boat as we walked around. We ended up brushing the floor of the deck and the cockpit for 1 hour. We almost lost our bucket while trying to get some seawater from the ocean, but luckily, we managed to catch it. If we had lost the bucket, we won’t have been able to get seawater again. Seawater is very very important to us as a resource. We attached a new handle made of rope for the bucket. Small mistakes can cause big problems for a boat in the middle of the ocean. We will try to be more careful in the future.

We had smoked salmon and cheese omelette with some vegetables for dinner today.
This image is for illustrative purposes. Not the actual bucket thay use.

  1. Forget about the stinky diesel, you guys are gonna get some strong westerlies momentarily. Hoist ‘em and hang on!
PS. The Gourmet omelette looks delicious😀

  2. Wow that looked like a very nice dinner. Better than mine – I had two rice cookies and a cup of tea. You’re sure learning some very useful survival tips on this journey. Don’t try to wash dishes in the ocean and tether that bucket. LOL Take care and may the wind be at your back.
